# Post loads to Truckstop through its API

> A broker or admin connects Truckstop under Settings → Connectors → Truckstop Load Posting. Post a load from its row menu with Post to Truckstop, or have an admin turn on Auto-post on import. With Auto-remove postings on, postings come down when a load is booked, covered or archived.

Once your agency connects Truckstop, SmartLoads posts through Truckstop's API, so there's no file to upload.

## Connect Truckstop

1. In the left menu, under **Settings**, click **Connectors**.
2. Open the **Truckstop Load Posting** card and click **Connect Truckstop**.
3. Sign in on Truckstop's own page. You need a Truckstop account with load-posting permission. SmartLoads never sees your Truckstop password.

When you're done, Truckstop sends you back to SmartLoads and the card says **Connected**.

If you don't see **Connectors**, ask your admin. Admins always see it. Brokers need **Connectors** ticked in their feature access. Dispatchers don't see it.

Each connection belongs to the person who made it. The first one becomes your agency's primary connection. Someone else can add theirs with **Connect another account**. Only brokers and admins can connect.

## Post a load

- **One load:** open the load's row menu (the three dots) and click **Post to Truckstop**. Once it's posted, the menu shows **Update on Truckstop** and **Remove from Truckstop**.
- **Several loads:** tick their rows, then click **Post to Truckstop** in the bar that appears. The button shows how many of the picked loads can be posted.

A Truckstop logo on a row means the load is posted. Hover over it to see when.

These options show for brokers and admins once your agency is connected. A first posting is only for loads that aren't booked yet.

## Auto-post and auto-remove

An admin sets these in the **Truckstop Load Posting** panel:

- **Auto-post on import** is off unless an admin turns it on. When it's on, new loads from imports post by themselves while the board is on and inside your work hours. A **Queued** chip on a row means the load is waiting to auto-post.
- **Auto-remove postings** is on unless an admin turns it off.
- **Edit hours** opens your board work hours. The default is 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Central time, Monday to Friday.

Loads held for location or rate review don't auto-post.

## What the posting says

The posting's note carries the commodity, the weight, pickup hours from the load's notes, your routing phone number when one is set for that source, the tarp line when the load needs a tarp, and the load's special instructions. SmartLoads strips dollar amounts, email addresses and phone numbers out of those instructions first.

Truckstop gets a rate only when the customer's **Show rate on load boards** switch is on. Per-ton loads never post a rate. What your customer pays you is never posted.

## When postings come down

With **Auto-remove postings** on:

- every 10 minutes, SmartLoads removes postings for loads that were booked, covered or archived;
- if your agency uses auto-post or **Close and archive at end of day**, the rest come down after closing;
- otherwise a load's posting comes down when the load clears overnight.

An admin's **Clear Board** on the **Board Ledger** page removes all of your agency's live Truckstop postings, including postings for loads it keeps on the board. Turning the **Board** switch off on the board removes postings and keeps the loads.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does DAT work the same way?

No. DAT gets your loads from an upload file. See [Export loads to DAT](https://help.smartloads.io/export-loads-to-dat).

### Postings stopped updating. What do I do?

Ask the person who connected Truckstop to open the **Truckstop Load Posting** card and connect again.

### Can I post a load outside work hours?

Yes. Work hours only limit auto-posting. **Post to Truckstop** works any time.
