How to find or create your blog's RSS feed
Open Marketing → Social → Connections, paste your blog's feed or just your blog's address under Blog, click Find feed, then Save feed. Each new post with a picture waits in the Scheduler under Waiting for approval. Nothing posts until someone approves it.
An RSS feed is a page your blog keeps up to date with its newest posts. SmartLoads reads it about once an hour. When it finds a new post, it turns it into a suggested social post for you to approve.
You don't have to know your feed's address. Paste your blog's own address and SmartLoads looks for the feed. If your blog has no feed, SmartLoads reads the list of posts on your blog page instead.
Add your blog
- In the left menu, under Marketing, open Social, then Connections.
- Scroll to Blog.
- Paste your feed's address, or your blog's address (the page that lists your posts), such as
https://www.example.com/blog. - Click Find feed. You'll see the feed's name and its latest posts.
- Under Suggest posts for, tick LinkedIn, Facebook or both.
- Click Save feed.
Only admins can add, change or remove the blog.
Find your feed's address
If you'd rather paste the feed itself, here's where the common blog tools keep it. Replace www.example.com with your own site.
| Your blog runs on | Your feed is usually at |
|---|---|
| WordPress | https://www.example.com/feed |
| Wix | https://www.example.com/blog-feed.xml |
| Squarespace | Your blog page's address plus ?format=rss, such as https://www.example.com/blog?format=rss |
| HubSpot | Your blog's address plus /rss.xml, such as https://www.example.com/blog/rss.xml |
| Webflow | Webflow doesn't make one by itself. Turn on the RSS feed in your blog collection's settings in Webflow, then copy the address it shows. Or just paste your blog's address. |
Not sure what your blog runs on? Open your blog in a browser, add /feed to the end of the address, and see if a page of code-like text appears. If not, paste your blog's address and let SmartLoads look.
What happens to a new post
- SmartLoads checks your blog about once an hour.
- A new post becomes a suggested social post. It has your post's title, a short summary, a link to the post and the post's picture.
- It's set for the next weekday at 10:00 a.m. Eastern, at least 18 hours away.
- It waits in the Scheduler under Waiting for approval. It posts only if someone clicks Approve. Reject removes it from the list.
Posts already on your blog when you add it are never suggested. Only posts published after that, and nothing more than two weeks old.
If your blog has no feed, SmartLoads reads each new post's own page for the date it was published. A post with no date shows No date under New posts and isn't suggested, since SmartLoads can't tell it's new. Adding your blog's feed fixes that.
A post without a picture isn't suggested; it shows No picture under New posts. Add a featured image to the post on your blog, and the next post with one goes through.
Change or remove your blog
- Change lets you paste a different address. The old one stops being checked.
- Remove, then Stop suggesting, stops checking your blog. Posts already waiting in the Scheduler stay there until you approve or reject them.
Frequently asked questions
Find feed says it couldn't find a feed or any posts. What now?
Paste the page that lists your posts, not your home page. If that still doesn't work, find the feed address from the table above and paste it.
It says my site asks tools like ours not to read its pages.
Your site's robots.txt file asks crawlers to stay out, and SmartLoads respects it. Paste your feed's address instead. Feeds are meant to be read this way.
Will SmartLoads ever post without asking?
No. Every suggestion waits under Waiting for approval until a person approves it.
Can I edit the text before it posts?
Not in SmartLoads yet. Reject the suggestion and post it your own way, or approve it as it is.
